They call the belmont stakes race "The Test of the Champion" and that's because of the length of the race and the short time between the races of the kentucky derby and preakness. The winner of this years 2012 belmont stakes will receive a nice cash payday but also something that's priceless in the blanket of carnations around winners circle. This race as of late has turned into a curse for any horse who has tried to win the triple crown. The last time the triple crown was ever clinched was in 1978 by the horse named Affirmed. Since then no horse has passed the test of the champion and many have gone home packing with disapointing results. Will this year be any different? It could be and according to recent belmont stakes odds it appears like it. Currently "I'll Have Another" who has won the previous two races going for the Triple Crown is a large favorite at 8/5 to win. When I look at the strength of competitors I understand why he is such a fan and pro betting favorite but will he pass the test of a champion? None of us really know yet so we will have to see.

As listed above your able to see this years 2012 belmont stakes contendors. None of the horse in my eyes really stick out except for I'll Have Another and Union Rags which last race was at the Kentucky Derby and finished a disapointing 7th place. One thing that is for certain if the curse continues on not having another triple crown winner the payouts will be huge for the winning horse. I know a majority of people will be rooting on for I'll Have Another but he just don't have me sold on being a triple crown winner type of horse. I honestly think this years breed of horses is below par to years past and will be rooting on I'll Have Another to lose. That said he will probably not lose and will become a 2012 triple crown winner but in my opinion
one of the lower quality of horses to win it. You may also visit this related belmont stakes site that has up to date belmont stakes betting odds.
More 2012 Belmont Stakes Predictions
I'm predicting Union Rags to win this years belmont stakes in a upset however I do Like I'll Have Another to finish in the top three. If your looking for a safe high quality horse to finish in the top 3 that will payout decently consider adding a betting ticket to Street Life. This horse does very well in long races and has not ran since the Peter Pan horse classic in which he finished 3rd in that race. I'm predicting this horse will close around 15 to 1 and have a show payout odds around 4 to 1 which will produce a very decent profit. Unlike betting I'll Have Another where you virtually have to wager the farm to win anything this is a pretty safe bet without having to risk everything. On a wild shot I'm also betting on a triffecta box that includes Union Rags, I'll Have Another, and Optimizer. I have yet to win on a triffecta like this before especially in such an important race but I like to tell my horse handicapper buddies it's not if but when and then we will see who is smiling.
Some other basic belmont information you should be aware of is the weather and time it will take place. You should be able to watch this race on your local cable provider on NBC on Saturday, June 9th. The Belmont Gates will be opening around 8:30 am eastern time and admission is on a first come basis. I wish you the best of luck on whoever you decide to wager on but remember to bet with your head and not over it.
