Arizona makes CWS for 16th time

Konner Wade pitched a complete game, giving up six hits, while Seth Mejias-
Brean had three hits and an RBI and Bobby Brown knocked in two with a pair of
hits to lift Arizona to a 7-4 win over St. John’s.

Arizona had won the opener of the best-of-three set, 7-6, in 10 innings on
Friday. The Wildcats made the CWS for the first time since 2004 and were the
first of eight teams that will make it through the super regionals.

The CWS begins next Friday in Omaha, Nebraska.

UCLA will be there, too, after a 4-1 victory over TCU to sweep their set in
the Los Angeles super regional.

Florida State, after routing Stanford 17-1 on Friday, also could have advanced
but the second game of that series was postponed because of rain. It will be
played Sunday.

Stony Brook fought off elimination by riding Tyler Johnson’s three-hitter to a
3-1 win in the second game against LSU.

LSU had won the opener 5-4 in a 12th-inning walk-off earlier Saturday to end a
game that was suspended in the top of the inning Friday after a 2 1/2-hour
weather delay.

On the other side of the bracket, two-time defending champion South Carolina
pushed its NCAA-record postseason winning streak to 20 games with a 5-0 win
over Oklahoma.

No. 1 Florida beat NC State 7-1 in their first game, Baylor topped Arkansas
8-1 in that opener and Oregon was taking on Kent State.
