Alexander Povetkin (23-0) vs. Marco Huck (34-1) Preview

February 22, 2012 by agent

Alexander Povetkin will defend his WBA "regular" heavyweight title against Marco Huck next Saturday. The belt at stake is the fake WBA strap but this will be an interesting bout nonetheless. Povetkin is poised for a run at the real crown once the Klitschko brothers leave the scene and Huck moved up from the cruiserweight division to take this fight.

Povetkin won the WBA title against Ruslan Chagaev last August and in his first title defense he beat 42-year-old fringe contender Cedric Boswell by an 8th round TKO last December.

Huck is well-known in the cruiserweight ranks because of his two-year, eight-defense reign, which saw wins against three solid contenders. Huck's sole loss was a 12th Round stoppage against Steve Cunningham in his first world title challenge. Huck fought well in the first six rounds but the faster Cunningham came on later and prevailed.

Marco Huck has more experience and a better record on paper but Povetkin is more versatile, it won't be hard for him to close Huck down and he is superior on the inside. Huck is a strong, durable and aggressive puncher but his skills are limited, he will have to catch Povetkin really sweetly to stop him and I think that's the only chance he has. I see Povetkin winning via unanimous decision or a late TKO.
