Alabama Crimson Tide Searching For New QB
The Alabama Crimson Tide are in a spot that we haven’t seen this team in very often. The team who is considered as a popular bet to play in the National Championship year in and year out, is now looking to try to find a replacement for quarterback AJ McCarron. It’s an interesting spot, as the Crimson Tide and new position coach Lane Kiffin are searching through five different candidates to become the new starting quarterback.
Spring practice kicked off for the Tide on Saturday, and the team who has won three of the past five National Championships is trying to figure out the right replacement for their star quarterback. Interestingly enough, the player who is considered to be the favorite to take the job, is a player who isn’t even on campus yet. That player is a transfer from Florida State in Jake Coker, who isn’t going to be in town until summer time when he graduates from school.
The team is going to be focused in on not only finding a replacement for McCarron for this coming year, but also for the future, as there are definitely youngsters on the roster, such as freshman David Cornwell. Last year’s backup, Blake Sims, is also going to get a lot of consideration, but it’ll be interesting to see if he can get the job over Coker.
Sims is a very mobile quarterback, so head coach Nick Saban said he’s in the process of becoming a “more consistent passer.” Currently, Kiffin is working with the two quarterbacks listed above, as well as Alec Morris, Parker McLeod, and Cooper Bateman. Out of all of the quarterbacks, the only one who has thrown a pass in college football is Sims, so obviously it’s going to take some time to find out who the real quarterback of the future is.
This definitely isn’t the only position that the Crimson Tide need to fill though, as there are absolutely some key players who are going to be gone. This will include safety Ha HA Clinton-Dix, linebacker C.J. Mosley, and left tackle Cyrus Kouandjio, just to name a few. This is a different feel for an Alabama team, as they are trying to get prepared for a new season with some holes, and they finished last year in a rough spot, as they lost to Auburn and then lost to Oklahoma in the Sugar Bowl.
Get ready for some college football, as we’re getting closer and closer.
