2012 NBA Draft Preview – Michael Kidd-Gilchrist

The 2012 NBA draft is tomorrow and today we will take a look at Michael Kidd-Gilchrist.  Anthony Davis was not the only phenom freshman at Kentucky on the 2012 NCAA championship team.  In my opinion Kidd-Gilchrist will be a huge boost to Cleveland if they draft him as projected, but some have the Cavaliers taking Harrison Barnes of North Carolina.

Harrison Barnes had a better draft combine, but doesn’t have the natural talent of Kidd-Gilchrist.  KG is a much better defender and rebounder.  Barnes might have the edge as Cleveland could use some explosive offensive power to complement Kyrie Irving.

Some speculation has Kidd-Gilchrist going to the Golden State Warriors with the #7 pick.  This would be a good fit, but no matter the analysis, I have a hard time seeing KG still around when it comes to the 7th pick.  The Warriors have a big need for a small forward who can play aggressive defense, run the floor and get rebounds.  Golden State isn’t in dire need of offensive skills, so this would be a spot where Kidd-Gilchrist has time to develop them.  He is definitely in my top 5 for tomorrow, but we will see.
