2012 All-Star Game Preview and Prediction

February 24, 2012 by Jako

We are at the half way mark of the NBA season and it is time for the annual All-Star game between the top players in the East and the best players in the West.  This year’s All-Star contest is being held at the Amway Center in Orlando.  The game will begin at 7:30 pm Eastern time and will be shown on TNT.

There are quite a few events over the course of the weekend in addition to Sunday night’s game.  The first is the BBVA Rising Stars Challenge.  This is a game between the NBA’s best rookies and the best second year players.  There will undoubtedly be a lot of attention on recent phenom Jeremy Lin.  There will also be the Taco Bell Skills Challenge and the Sprite Slam Dunk contest.

Starting guards for the East are Derrick Rose of the Bulls and D Wade of the Heat.  The forwards will be Carmelo Anthony of the Knicks and LeBron James of the Heat.  The starting center is Dwight Howard of the host Magic.  The starting guards for the West both come from Los Angeles but 2 different teams.  You will have Kobe from the Lakers and Chris Paul from the Clippers.  The forwards will be Kevin Durant of the Thunder and Blake Griffin of the Clippers.  And the starting center in the West will be Andrew Bynum.

There are a lot of props to bet this weekend.  Probably the two biggest will be the MVP of the All Star game and the MVP for the Rising Stars Challenge.  The big game itself is sure to be a great matchup of the starters and reserves on both sides.  I favor the guards in the East slightly over those in the West.  As for the forwards, I like the West just slightly.  Give the slight edge to Howard at center.  All that being said, it is a fun game, and the players will try to showcase their talents and hotdog a bit.  Taking into account the back-up players for both I am leaning towards the East in a close game.
